Holiday decor, indoor and outdoor

The holidays are coming up. It's that time of year to get festive and decorate your home for guests, and events. Much like decorating your home throughout the rest of the year, the simpler the better. For the Christmas holiday, ditch the tacky foil garlands and use something that looks more natural. Something like artificial holly leaves or a poinsettia on the table are always nice. When it comes to outdoor holiday decor, don't over-do it on the lights. Too many lights, especially ones that are mismatched, don't look nice, also they run up the electric bills! A few strategically placed strands of lights should do it. Going with a more simple decor game plan this holiday season will mean less work, and an elegant touch to your holiday.

Choosing the right outdoor decor

So you have a yard, you may even have a garden. Wouldn't it be great to have somewhere to relax and take in the beautiful yard that you've worked so hard on? Depending on your theme and the season, there may be outdoor decor that's right for you. Perhaps a small table and some chairs might be the perfect place to invite guests for a picnic or gathering. Not only furniture, but something like a water fountain may do wonders for your yard and/or garden.

Scented candles are a wonderful addition to your indoor decor

When you walk into someone's house, what's one of the first things that you notice? Probably the smell. Something fresh, something fruity, something spicy. Everyone's place seems to have a scent of it's own. Scented candles are a great addition to anyone's indoor decor. They help to set the mood of the place and they're particularly effective when they are scents that are in season. Just imagine, around the holidays, having candles that smell like a fresh baked pie and spice. Or in the spring time, the smell of fresh flower. Not only do they smell nice, they're also very pretty to look at. With so many scents and styles to choose from, there's no reason anyone's home should go without.

Color coordinating your indoor decor

When it comes to creating an inviting atmosphere with your indoor decor, it's very important to have a similar color scheme. When choosing all of your decor, furniture and accessories included, remember to choose colors that compliment one another. It's good to stick with a particular theme. For instance, when choosing darker colored furniture, it may be nice to have a light contrast of other objects. Blues work well with purples and whites. When it comes to earthy tones, stick to greens, browns, and oranges, all of medium intensity in color. For a warmer room choose reds, pinks, and lighter shades of orange. It's easy to find do-it-yourself guides online to help design your own indoor decor.

Rocks: nature's outdoor decor

Rock gardens and rock accents are always a great choice for your outdoor decor. Rocks can be arranged in any way you want, they don't require maintenance, and they're generally inexpensive if not free. They come in many colors and sizes, so it shouldn't be hard to find the perfect stones for your garden. They look nice by themselves or as an accents to an already existing plant garden.

Lighting is an important part of outdoor decor

Lights can do more than just illuminate your patio or yard for safety, they can also be used to accent particular elements of your outdoor decor. If you have a garden or path, you can put lights near those to show them off at night. Use colored lights for a more dramatic effect. If you have a pond, it's essential to keep it lit, or at least have it on a timer. When it comes to showing and enjoying your outdoor decor, it's important to be able to see it both night and day.
